All about… Student Consultation Meetings

What are Student Consultation Meetings? Learn all about this annual opportunity to share your feedback and help shape the experience of studying at the OU.

Student Consultation Meetings happen once a year in March. It is one of the ways the University listens to the student voice. These meetings bring together groups of student volunteers to discuss key issues. Students taking part have the opportunity to share their feedback and ideas and influence positive changes in the University.

These meetings are also a terrific opportunity to meet other OU students, OU staff, Students Association Representatives and Students Association staff.

What will be discussed?

The meetings have two discussion topics in which students are asked to share their opinions, feelings and ideas on. In previous years, students have shared their feedback on the new OU Strategy, Sustainability, Staying on Track with your Studies, and the Future of the Exams.  The discussion topics are advertised before the meetings to allow students to gather their thoughts prior to the meeting.

The meeting finishes with a session hosted by the Students Association, which is an opportunity to talk further with student representatives about the consultations and to find out more about the Association’s work, as well as other opportunities to get involved.

When are Student Consultation Meetings?

Student Consultation Meetings happen every year in March. There are usually 10 to 12 meetings to choose from with a variety of times, days, platforms, and for different student groups. All the meetings will focus on the same key issues so you can choose whichever meeting suits you best!

Why take part?

Student Consultation Meetings are an important way that the University listens to student feedback. We have a team of staff members who will run each meeting, who look forward to interacting with students and learning about the student experience.

A summary of the feedback you give will be reviewed by senior staff in the University, informing them on how best to make improvements to your study experience and support you in achieving your goals. The University values your ideas and feedback greatly; students are the experts in the student experience. It’s also a great opportunity to chat with other students and staff; and to develop your experience in sharing your views or making a persuasive argument!

The University is committed to the principles and values set out in the Student Charter. Student Consultation Meetings align with the value of supporting student engagement in University decision-making.
