Asking Right Questions Can Lead You to Better Assessment

When you are in classroom, you need to ask questions about any confusion that you feel during your lecture as this is the only way to discuss such matters in class.

In order to improve the learning process of the students, we use empirical data on knowledge and attitudes. This is known as an assessment. Assessment is necessary not only for the teachers but also for the students. The students can improve their learning with the help of assessment. On the other hand, the teachers can improve their teaching methods with the help of assessment. There are different types of assessments like formative assessment, interim assessment and summative assessment etc. Here, we will discuss how asking the right questions will lead to a better assessment.

It is an Important Measure of Basic Skills:

The main aim of the school, college and university education is to instil some basic skills among the students. These skills are helpful for them in their social, practical and professional life. If a teacher asks the right questions in a test, he will be able to measure the basic skills of the students. As a result, the students also try to prepare themselves to show the teachers that they have acquired the required skills during the particular tenure of their school, college or university education.

Best Ways to Get an Idea:

From grade 3 to 8, we can’t deny the importance of the Smarter Balanced tests. These tests are also helpful for the teachers to measure the basic skills of the students. These tests also tell the parents that what are the basic needs of this age and how they are instilling their children with these basic needs of this era. It is possible only if you are asking the right questions during the assessment.  After measuring the skills of the students, the teachers can easily get an idea about their weak and strong points and it is easy for them to bring the students on the right track of learning.

It is a Part of Learning for the Students:

To ask the right questions in the assessment is also considered as a learning process for the students. Its reason is that the results of the tests provide an idea about the strengths of the students. It means that you can easily get an idea about the subject areas in which the students are expelled. The results of the tests also provide an idea about the weaknesses of the students. It means that you can get an idea about the areas in which the students require improvements. By taking tests, the students will be able to face all the hurdles during their professional life. When all the students take tests, an environment of the competition will be created among the students.

It Will Enhance the Motivation Of the Students:

By asking the right questions during the assessment even if you are writing a dissertation, they can easily involve the students in the learning process. It means that it is helpful for them to measure the progress of the students. After measuring the progress of the students, the teachers can easily motivate the students. The students who take the best grades can get appreciation and this appreciation become the cause of motivation in the future. On the other hand, the students who take the lower grades can get motivation from the teachers that if they study diligently, they will also get the best grades in the future.

It is a Way of the Personalized Learning Experience:

To ask the right questions in the assessment is also a way of a personalized learning experience for the students. The instructional practices of the teachers also determine how to get the desired results from the students. After getting the desired results from the students, they also get an idea of how specific instructions or questions are helpful for them to get the desired results from a particular group of the students. It is also a fact that all the students in the class don’t have equal calibre. After asking questions from all the students, the teachers can easily differentiate between the weak and diligent students. After distinguishing between these students, they are able to divide the students into two or three groups and assign them different assignments to these groups.

Conclusion:

A method in which we gather empirical data on the knowledge and attitude of the students is known as assessment. For a better assessment of the students, it is necessary for the teachers to ask the right questions. To ask the right questions in the assessment is helpful for the learning of the students and teachers in various ways like the teachers can easily measure the right skills of the students, it is considered as a part of learning for the students, it is a way to enhance the motivation level of the students and it is also a way of personalized learning experience for the students.
