The following piece was an entry for our Writing Competition back in Spring where we asked for creative writing pieces on the student experience of the Coronavirus lockdown. The author, Aidan, is from Norwich and is a Religion, Philosophy and Ethics BA student.
These four walls, 12-foot X 10,
Are as vast or small as the ones in my head.
I can imagine a nation where I am king
And go wherever my thoughts may take me…
So, I must be wise not to delve
Too far into my imagination,
For I am both king and usurper.
If I dare permit it, I can determine
Whether I am captive, or I am free.
Or If I am brave enough to allow it,
Whether I am to serve or serve my greed.
Right now, I hold the cure to the virus
At the tips of my fingers, and I will reveal it.
I must be careful… the enemy is closing in
