Learning through teaching

Allow me to explain – Someone asks me how to do something, I either know or I don’t. Either way, them asking makes me think “I better check that.”

You learn a lot from teaching

Allow me to explain –

Someone asks me how to do something, I either know or I don’t.

Either way, them asking makes me think “I better check that.”

If I do the wrong thing and it doesn’t work for me that’s my problem.

If I ‘help’ and I am wrong the other person’s problem just got bigger, it’s my fault and they are unlikely to want my ‘help’ to put it right. They might not even tell me. They might just think “I’m not asking them again.” Which might not bode well for me in the future, given they will probably remember and possibly share that information.

When I check –

Things might have changed – knowledge update

I find out more while checking – additional knowledge

They ask me something additional that I hadn’t covered – additional knowledge

If I don’t know I have learnt so I can tell them – additional knowledge

If I don’t know and I don’t check, can I call myself a student?
