I enjoy knitting and sewing and the odd foray into very simple crochet; handcrafts help me to relax, especially when I’m studying although it’s really just an excuse to play!

For the last few years I’ve been making things for various charities, these Worry Monsters are for children who have had a hard time and go to a charity in Yorkshire that distributes them around the country. Their mouths are pockets for the child to put their worries into so that the monster can eat them.
I like to put a friendly little mouse inside each one too!

The quilts I make go to a charity in SW Scotland for children in hospital. They have a fleecy backing so they are nice and cuddly but not too heavy and the children can keep them.

Not forgetting the animals I make these nests for wild animals and birds in rescue shelters. They are at the limit of my crocheting ability but luckily the wee beasties that sleep in them don't notice my wonky rows!

I make blankets, clothes and these 'twiddle muffs' (for folk with dementia) and send them to a London charity that supplies both those in need in the UK and refugees abroad.

You’re so talented!
Thanks Heather, they are fun to make!
Hi Diane, I’m very envious of your talent! It’s wonderful the way you use your skills to help children, people with dementia and rescue animals. This was a very uplifting article, thank you 🙂
Thanks Nicola, that’s a lovely thing to say.
I would really like to make some of the twiddle muffs, such a great idea, where can I find out details of where to send them to?
Hi Julie, this is where I send mine, there is a pattern for the basic shape so I hope you have fun making them. https://www.knitforpeace.org.uk/
I just had a look and the pattern is under the adult tab!
brilliant, thank you so much!
You’re welcome Julie.
Those worry monsters are amazing! How do you make them? I would love to give it a go!
Hello Beth, thanks! there are lots of patterns on this website, (including mine) and also the instructions about fillings sizes etc – this is where I send the ones I make and I’m sure they would love yours too. https://www.knitfornowt.org/worry-puppet-patterns
You can make up your own as well, enjoy!
