Monsters and Nests

The nests are at the limit of my crocheting ability but luckily the wee beasties that sleep in them don't notice my wonky rows!

I enjoy knitting and sewing and the odd foray into very simple crochet; handcrafts help me to relax, especially when I’m studying although it’s really just an excuse to play!

For the last few years I’ve been making things for various charities, these Worry Monsters are for children who have had a hard time and go to a charity in Yorkshire that distributes them around the country. Their mouths are pockets for the child to put their worries into so that the monster can eat them.

I like to put a friendly little mouse inside each one too!

Little woollen mice!

The quilts I make go to a charity in SW Scotland for children in hospital. They have a fleecy backing so they are nice and cuddly but not too heavy and the children can keep them.

Not forgetting the animals I make these nests for wild animals and birds in rescue shelters. They are at the limit of my crocheting ability but luckily the wee beasties that sleep in them don't notice my wonky rows!

I make blankets, clothes and these 'twiddle muffs' (for folk with dementia) and send them to a London charity that supplies both those in need in the UK and refugees abroad.

  1. Hi Diane, I’m very envious of your talent! It’s wonderful the way you use your skills to help children, people with dementia and rescue animals. This was a very uplifting article, thank you 🙂
