On the 4th July 2020, I set a challenge to OU Fitmembers to walk, run, cycle or wheel from Edinburgh to New York 5256 Km. In my mind, I thought this would be a good 6-week challenge, but I totally underestimated the strength of OU Fit members. With over 140 members uploading or messaging distance every day, we arrived on day 20, AMAZING.
Each day members would share their distances, share their thoughts and their struggles in taking part. This led to them all banding together as a team, supporting and encouraging each other, which as an Admin was fantastic to see. We had members contributing different levels of distances, but the sense of a one team approach was fantastic. We had an ethos that each step submitted was a step to achieve our ultimate goal. To date, we have had over 180 members register distances to the challenges.
After a few days sightseeing, we decided to move on to Niagara Falls, 657Km. This we achieved in under 3 days. Next, it was suggested that since we were there we should visit Chicago, another 895Km. This was completed in less than 3 days. We are having few days rest here until we start the long 6283Km back to the OU campus in Milton Keynes in time for Freshers 2020. We are planning a special Freshers challenge open to all students and staff.
I am so proud of each and every member of OU Fit who has taken up this challenge, not just for the distances they have covered, but for the way they have encouraged, celebrated and support each other through these challenges. Team OU Fit is amazing and makes us Admins feel so proud to be managing such a positive club. The respect shown between every member is amazing and shows our members are all superstars.
Let’s smash this next challenge Team OU Fit.
