We’re excitedly preparing for the first in a new series of events coming to you from the OU Students Association’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. We know many of you feel passionately about making the OU a fairer and more equal place and one of the most important factors within that is having safe spaces to come together to explore and discuss issues that are close to our hearts. This new series of events will provide an opportunity to have important conversations, to share ideas and to support one another.
When?
Tuesday 28th September 2021 6-7pm
Where?
Microsoft Teams – find all the details on our website.
Who?
Hosted by Patrice Belton, Vice President Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Sammi Wright, Projects Officer, EDI and Student Welfare.
Guests: Sj from the OU Pride group, a Disabled Students Group Member and Jiten Patel from Diversync.
What?
Chat, encouragement, and inspiration. Connect with and hear from students like you; who have been there, done that and have a wealth of OU-related stories to share. We’ll explore our panel’s experiences of OU study, how they have overcome fears and concerns along the journey, their most valued support and their desert island tracks and procrastination snacks.
Patrice shares her hopes and thoughts for the event: “my desire for this event is that it, enables us to empower, engage and enable students from diverse backgrounds, cultures and lived experiences, to feel welcomed, included and integrated from this early point in their study journeys (and beyond); by helping them to find, build, connect and identify as part of the (wider) student community, whilst inspiring them to make their own mark as valued members of the Association and, as Students at the OU”.
With that in mind, our thoughts are already turning to future events, and we would love your input. We’d love to hear your ideas for future topics, themes or panellists. Please email oustudents-community@open.ac.uk with “Student Insights” in the title if you have an idea to share or wish to offer feedback to support future events.
We’ll look forward to seeing you on 28th September. In the meantime, check out our other events for a chance to get together with other OU students.
Very much looking forward to this, even if someone’s taken the time to click ‘disagree’. I’m assuming their finger slipped ☺️
