Back at the start of December, the staff here at the Association set out on a mission to organise an online Secret Santa for our OU student distance learners. After all, we reckon Secret Santa’s are one of the best bits about Christmas! Instead of gifts, however, we asked OU students to write a message that would then be sent out anonymously to other students. Incredibly, well over 100 different messages were sent in from all over the world which we then forward back onto students last week. We absolutely loved reading every message, and some in particular even made us stop and outwardly exclaim “aww!” For your viewing pleasure, here are just a few of our absolute favourites!
Life will throw many adventures our way; some will be easy, some difficult, some we will enjoy and want to do again and again, and some will make us feel like it's been hell on earth, but we get through and then prepare for the next one. Try to think of 2020 as one of your life's adventures, you don't know yet whether you will love it or hate it but all you can do is make the most of it, get out of it what you can, make as many memories from it as you can and then prepare for the next adventure. Have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Celebrate however makes you happy and make all you can of the new year. All the best, an OU student.
Hey you! You've worked so hard so far this academic year, great job! Now, time to relax with friends and family, enjoy way too much food (and possibly drink) and don't think about uni or that next assignment due! Wishing you a very merry Christmas and of course a happy new year! All the best for 2020! P.s Who hides in a bakery at Christmas? ... A mince spy....
Hoping this Christmas finds you as well as you can be and that all of your plans for this Christmas and the New year work our for you. Keep going - you will succeed in your studies and in life. Remember there are people out there if you need support, in anything. Wishing you a good Christmas and remember you will smash next year! X
I don't know who you are, but I think you're so brave and powerful for doing your OU study. It's so hard and I have so much respect for all my peers. We're smashing this! I wasn't sure what to write, so I'm giving you a to-do list. If you want, I mean you do you! Go enjoy Christmas. Watch Parks and Recreation (it's hilarious). Treat yo self. Call your crush or hug your significant other. Make rum truffles, they're so easy and yummy. Look back on how many assignments you've submitted and tell yourself you're smashing it (cause you are!). Listen to some Taylor Swift, I don't know. Do a snow dance (I could do with a day off work). Tell the student support team that you love them (I do this frequently, not cause I'm weird just cause they're amazing). Listen to me tell you you're wonderful! Go find a cat to pet. Tell someone you believe in magic and maybe they'll believe too. Merry Christmas, have a wonderful new year, and good luck with your study.
Hey fellow amazing student! I hope that the year has treated you well, but the start of the raving 20's will treat you better this upcoming decade! When times get tough, just know that you will make it through whatever hardships life brings - no matter if it feels impossible. And remember: You are not alone! We are here with you, in studies and in hardships 😀 Wish you happy festivities!
It's the most wonderful time of the year 🙂 May your holidays sparkle with moments of love, joy, laughter, and studying. Yes, with studying too - it is going to be hard, but it is going to be worth it. Best wishes for Happy Holidays and a magnificent New Year.
Hi Mystery student from across the world! Happy holidays from a Canadian classmate. Wishing you a great 2020 and happy holidays - however you spend them. Here's a bit of a laugh for you, 4 reasons why Santa Claus is actually Canadian! https://www.cbc.ca/kidscbc2/the-feed/four-amazing-facts-that-prove-santa-is-canadian
Have a wonderful Christmas. May the new year bring you straightforward TMAs, easily comprehendable subjects and endless time to complete your work! Realistically, just be kind to yourself, remember the progress you have made and recognise that small steps make a big difference. Much love to you stranger x
When study gets tough and you feel like giving up, remember that feeling when you first signed up. Those plans of a better life and that feeling of "I can do this". Each day is a step closer to crossing that stage and saying to the world look at me I am an open university graduate. You may feel alone at times but you have 170 thousand other brother and sisters out there. Make 2020 your year as I am making it mine. Merry Christmas.
You're doing such an amazing thing, studying with the OU. Whether this is your first module or your twentieth, whether you're in your first decade of adulthood or your ninth, studying for work or for pleasure, you're doing something quite remarkable, being part of all this. And yknow what? You're doing great. Remember to be kind to yourself - you're doing something hard, it might not always be easy, motivation wise or in any of a dozen other ways, but you're here, you're doing it. You got this. Merry Winterval! I hope you have a lovely festive time, whatever you might be celebrating. Even if it's just getting that TMA in!
