WriteNow Programme with BBC Studios

An opportunity for writers from an under-represented background to be published by Penguin, and possibly have their work adapted by the BBC.

Hi all,

I work in Employer Engagement here at The Open University, and one of my accounts is Penguin Random House.

I wanted to make you all aware of this opportunity open to all aspiring writers: Penguin wants to seek out, nurture, and publish new writers from under-represented communities.

What does WriteNow offer?

– A free workshop on how to get published, online and open to all applicants

– One-to-one feedback on your writing from a Penguin editor

– The opportunity to hear from published authors, literary agents, and industry experts

– The chance to join our year-long programme, matching you with an editor to offer support and advice while you work on your book

Eligibility

This includes, but is not limited to, writers from a socio-economically marginalised background, writers who identify as Black, Asian or minority ethnic or LGBTQ+, or disabled writers or writers who have a long-term health condition.

Applications close at 11:59 pm on Sunday 8 January 2023

A successful OU candidate in a previous year of this programme said that they only applied as they saw it in a Careers Express email.  So this is a great success story as it’s known to be competitive to get into publishing.

Please share as widely as you can so we can get more OU students, staff and alumni to enter. And enter yourself if you're interested and eligible!
