Volunteering as a Graduation Stall Coordinator

One of our volunteers, Cazz, tells us what it was like to volunteer as a Graduation Stall Coordinator at one of the amazing OU ceremonies.

I volunteered at my first graduation ceremony during my third year with The Open University and it was one of the best things I did. It gave me the opportunity to talk to other students and also spurred me on to get there myself.

Everyone was so happy and the atmosphere was just incredible. I loved it from start to finish. I was a graduation volunteer for my first ceremony, then at my next one (it does get addictive), I was a graduation coordinator which gave me a say in choosing my team for the day from our wonderful pool of volunteers.

I’ve now volunteered at five different ceremonies in differing roles and still love it as much as the first time. I absolutely would say if you’d like to volunteer for something, the graduation ceremonies are the best place to start. The staff are super friendly, the training is fantastic, and you spend the whole day surrounded by people who have been exactly where you are with their qualifications so you ask them questions and they’re happy to answer them for you.

Hope to see you at a ceremony soon!

Sign up to volunteer or coordinate!

If you’re looking for leadership experience, this is the perfect opportunity for you. The OU Students Association is recruiting for Graduation Coordinators to lead a small team selling merchandise at graduations across the UK. You can sign up for just one or more ceremonies depending on what suits you.

You will be immersed in the excitement of graduation and will be an important part of OU students’ graduation day.

No experience is necessary as you will receive full training for the role so you are prepared to direct and lead a team of passionate students during graduation season

There are graduations up and down the country, and our next opportunities to volunteer are in London, Poole, Manchester, Ely and Belfast! Applications for these will close at midnight on the 31 January.

We are also recruiting for volunteers if you would prefer this over coordinating.
