The Student Charter, which was jointly developed by The Open University and OU Students Association, sets out a declaration of shared values for all within the OU community. It sets out expectations of students and staff, and how we all work together. For 2024, we have launched our Student Charter Value of the Month campaign!

Student Charter Value of the Month: January

Value 6: We actively support authentic student engagement in University decision-making, closing the feedback loop; and commit to building partnership between staff and students.

For this value, we have a case study to help guide your knowledge and understanding of how The Open University is committed to this value. Have a look at the Student Charter Value of the Month: January Case Study here.

The case study discusses the Student Consultation Meetings. These meetings are run by the Student Voice Team at The Open University every year to allow students to give feedback on a range of Open University projects.

In 2022/23, we asked students all about induction here at The Open University and it lead to positive changes! The response by the Open University staff member responsible for induction gave this response to students’ feedback from the Student Consultation Meeting:

The OU is undertaking a project to improve students’ induction experience and preparedness for study. The project entails the development of a new induction website and induction activities to be presented to students 4-6 weeks before their module start date. We hope that this will help students ease their transition to their learning environments earlier, and enable them to feel more informed, supported and confident in their preparedness for successful study. The new induction experience was piloted across seven modules in August 2023.

Look out for the next Student Charter Value of the Month in late February.
