What’s On Guide for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Freshers 2023

As the curtain rises on your exciting chapter at the OU Students Association, it's time to explore what we offer on the topic of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.


Here is an easy guide to ensure you do not miss out on an exciting opportunity to understand, celebrate, and champion equality,  diversity and inclusion at the OU Students Association.

Please note that our online events are intended to be welcoming and friendly spaces. Please read our Code of Conduct before joining any session and keep this in mind when taking part.

  1. 1 1pm - 2pm 28 September (online): Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Roadshow: Celebrating differences, creating unity

    Join us for the first of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Roadshow series where we will explore why EDI is important and should be on everyone's agenda. We will move on to present our brand-new campaign idea and demonstrate how you can get involved.

  2. 2 7:30pm - 8:30pm 28 September (online): OU Pride


    An informal 'Who We Are' session followed by the traditional OU Pride Quiz (with prizes!). Feel free to bring your questions about OU Pride along, we are more than happy to answer them!

  3. 3 5pm - 6:30pm 29 September (online): Disabled Students Group Monthly Drop-in


    A chance to socialise with other members and express any queries and concerns you may have to the Committee. It is a friendly, laidback environment where you can participate as much or as little as you want, where cameras and microphones are optional.

    To protect our members our drop-ins are restricted to DSG members only, unless by prior invitation. If you are not a full member of the Disabled Students Group, you can apply to join us here and you can learn more about our Committee on this page.

  4. 4 Noon - 2pm 30 September (On campus): Freshers Fair and Tutor Awards Ceremony

    This is a great chance to see the OU Campus, find out more about the OU Students Association, our Societies and student-led Support Groups (Disabled Students Group and the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Group). Mingle with other students over a cuppa and have some fun. Drop in at any time between 12pm and 2pm.

    Event is open to new and returning students, tea, coffee, water and cake will be on offer but please note no food is available on campus that day so feel free to bring your sandwiches.

    We’ll also be announcing the winners of the Tutor Awards, so be sure to join us for a fun filled afternoon.

  5. 5 2pm - 3pm 6 October (online): Welcome to the Disabled Students Group

    A presentation hosted by the Disabled Students Group (DSG) committee providing information about what the DSG is and how they can support you through your time at the OU. This session is aimed at students who have mental, emotional and/or physical conditions which may impact their studies including those who identify as disabled or neurodivergent - you do not need a diagnosis or to have disclosed this to the university or association to join. If you have any concerns around accessibility, please contact us at dsg@open.ac.uk.

  6. 6 6:30pm - 8pm 7 October (online): Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Group drop-in

    For students to informally drop in, chat with us, and get to know the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students Group.
