Hello everyone. My name is James Kelly and I am a 27 year old student at the OU currently studying towards a degree in Philsophy & English Literature. I've really enjoyed my experience studying at the OU so far. I've found the staff and tutors very compassionate and helpful, and have also enjoyed meeting fellow students through OU Facebook groups and OU Student Connect, which has inspired me to aim to become more involved in our community and see if I can help participate in supporting and doing things for others in a more direct way.

I think I would be the ideal candiate for the role becasue I'm attentive, organised, and would be dedicated to the position if elected, and am also adaptable to criticism and feedback. I also am keen on learning new things from others and value a sense of community and shared values. I know that at the OU there is a very diverse student body from different backgrounds and age ranges, and no two students are the same. I am reasonably computer literate and would do my best to reach out regularly to our community by attending meetings such as drop-ins and other online community events.

I have several ideas of what I would aim to accomplish over the two years if elected, and these include campaigning to update the IOS OU app, creating a student issues related club or society, and seeking to engage a wider audience in the student body through clear online communication. Last but not least, I'd campaign to rename Milton Keynes' Caldecotte Lake (formally or informally) 'The Gulf of Custard Creams'.

Thanks for reading!
