Hi Open University students!

I hope the first weeks of your new modules have been going exceedingly well, and that you’re settling into your new study routines and enjoying a vegan custard cream or two 🙂

We enjoyed the Welcome Week hosted by Open SU between 26th September to the 4th October, having been in-person at the Open University campus in Milton Keynes, and also welcoming a special guest Sasha Jolliffe Yasawi to speak at our online session. Sasha shared his insight and experience as a vegan animal rights activist to our audience, who engaged wholeheartedly in the chat while listening. It was a privilege to hear from someone who holds their beliefs so close to their heart, and passionately strives forward towards a fair and equal world for the animals. Inspiring to say the least!

We were so glad to meet more than a few vegans at the Betty Boothroyd library, and chat with many more people interested in veganism. Nora’s carrot cake went down very well with everyone who tried some, and I think my brownies got a thumbs up too! During the day we were selling raffle tickets to win some fantastic ethical and sustainable prizes to raise money for the fantastic Nowzad charity. It was a big success and we were fortunate to have some very generous donations, hitting our goal of £150! Today I have sent the money to Nowzad – £75 to their Afghanistan operation and the remaining half to the Ukraine appeal. A huge thank you to everyone who donated: please know that your money will go towards the care of animals in some of the most difficult situations on the planet.

I hope everyone who won a prize at the raffle is enjoying their spoils, be it Overherd oat milk powder, Naked Paper sustainable toilet paper, vegan sweets or sustainable gardening stationery. We are looking forward to our next event in the January Welcome Week – planning is already afoot. See you then, and in the meantime find us in all these places – Vegan Club linktr.ee.

Go vegan(s)😉💚
