First and foremost, as your Deputy President, I would like to say to everyone who has participated within the election – both students who have voted, and for those who nominated themselves for the various roles within the Student Leadership Team – thank you!
Prior to coming into this role, I have been working as an Amazon Fulfilment Associate, working in a variety of different departments, processing a varied number of products which were stored prior to shipping to thousands of customers across the globe (customers, such as yourself and other members of the OU community).
Natalie Baker, our OU Student Association President, and I, Andrew Wilson, are extremely excited to represent you, the students, on issues related to yourselves. We ensure that your voices and experiences will be continually heard, as well as considered valuable.
Recognising the achievements our previous Student Leadership Team have achieved, we want to remind everyone that no matter where you are in your studies, or are based, you can always reach out to the Association for guidance, support and help. We want you to benefit from the engaging community we have whilst at The Open University.
Take time to connect to your fellow students, whether by social media, the forums which are available through your modules and faculties online, and /or at in-person events where they are available.
These connections are useful in helping you as an individual to grow and gain valuable friendship (whilst learning important topics).
Also, just remember (as I’ve discovered as a student myself) – when you need to take time for yourselves as well as those around you, take it. Sometimes a minute or two is enough, sometimes a week, but do not be negligent with your studies. No matter what circumstances we face, no matter what problems we encounter, with some faith in ourselves, we can achieve much.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during the next two years, and hope to achieve much on your behalf.
