A wide range of activities are taking place at the Glasgow Science Festival in June, hosted by staff and students from the Open University’s Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS).
As well as being free, family day activities, they may be of particular interest to Open University students, as a chance to meet OU staff.
The OU’s long-standing relationship with Glasgow Science Festival continues with activities in 2024’s programme, linked to the collections and the festival’s theme ‘Glasgow’s Transforming’, celebrating how research is transforming our lives, our cities, and our futures.
Staff and students from The Open University will be on hand at the drop-in, interactive events at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, on Saturday 15 June 1.30-4.30pm, and Sunday 16 June 12.00-3.00pm.
The twelve activities on offer will include opportunities to go on a treasure hunt, explore the world with virtual reality, play a rocket launch game and delve into the music of Glasgow.
Also, art-lovers and environmentalists alike are invited to join two OU art historians and a filmmaker with a passion for the environment, for a discussion panel event on Friday 14 June, 6.00-6.45pm at the University of Glasgow. The ‘Transforming Landscapes in Film and Art’ event will include films that are paired with ArtUK lesson plans for teachers.
Plus, there is a range of free online OU science resources to explore as part of the festival’s ‘Science on the Sofa’ programme running for the whole of June.
