All you need are a pair of knitting needles and some yarn. The project is perfect for beginner knitters as the only knitting techniques you need to know are cast on, knit, purl, and cast off.

The knitted bookmark looks super cute and can be re-used. You could even knit a few bookmarks in different colours to help when saving the important pages from several different textbooks. The bookmark also makes a charming gift for avid readers and OU fans.

The type of yarn and knitting needle size you choose are up to you; different yarn weights and needle sizes will give you different size bookmarks. For the dark green bookmark, I used double knit acrylic yarn with size 3.75mm knitting needles, for the blue bookmark I used 4 ply 100% cotton yarn with 3mm knitting needles, and for the grey sparkly bookmark I used double knit acrylic yarn with 3.5mm knitting needles.

I have included written instructions for beginner knitters as well as a chart for more experienced knitters. Knitting charts used to terrify me but after watching a few online tutorials I can now read them and am converted!

Top tip: to make your finished bookmark flat, follow the care guidance for your chosen yarn and iron (or block if you are an experienced knitter).
