This year, 29,400 OU students have been invited to take part in the survey, who have the chance to have their say on their whole study journey.
If you have been invited to take part, please do complete your survey by midnight on Wednesday, 30 April.
Take part in the National Student Survey
Respondents can also choose to enter a prize draw, for the chance to win one of 15 x £60 Love2Shop vouchers.
This year, there will also be an optional sexual misconduct survey for students to complete, once they have taken part in the NSS.
Why taking part is important?
We require at least 50% of our cohort of 29,400 students to take part in the survey, so that we can publish our NSS results when they become available in the summer. Being able to publish our NSS results is crucial as the survey enables the Association and the OU to make the changes which students would like to see. It also provides essential information for prospective students who may be considering studying with the OU.
'You said, we did' – what we do with your feedback
The NSS is anonymous, so students can be as frank in their feedback as they like.
At the OU Students Association, we closely follow NSS feedback on the student union question – 'How well does the Students' Union (Association or Guild) represent students' academic interests?' – which helps our efforts to improve the ways in which we listen to students and communicate with them about how we represent their interests.
The Open University also uses NSS feedback to make continuous improvements to teaching, assessment and the whole student experience.
Feedback from previous years has been used to make changes to teaching and assessment, and to improve the experience of Open University students. Changes have been made to enhance module content, refine tutorial offerings, review communications to students, and create more opportunities for student involvement across the OU.
Following responses to the NSS in the past, the Students Association have:
- Made our website and reports fresher and more colourful.
- Furthered our commitment to Student Voice.
- Increased our work on the Annual Membership Survey (and focus groups etc) to allow us to better represent students’ needs.
About the National Student Survey
The NSS is an annual survey commissioned by the Office for Students (OfS) to invite feedback on students' experience of higher education in the UK. As a publicly-funded higher education institution, The Open University takes part in this survey each year, and every year thousands of undergraduate students receive an invitation to feed back on their experience of the OU.
You can find out more information about the National Student Survey via their website.
