Twice a year, we publish a newsletter specifically for OU students living in a secure environment. These students mainly use paper course material for their studies, meaning that they aren’t able to access the articles published on The Hoot. Therefore, we put together a bespoke newsletter, made up of inspiring and relevant articles from thehootstudents.com, as well as articles written by Open SU staff members.
The July 2025 newsletter (Issue 7) has been sent out to institutions across the country – you can download it from the Open SU website. This is our first SiSE newsletter under our new name of Open SU, so it's a significant milestone.
There are a range of topics covered in Issue 7, including our rebrand to Open SU, key information about our library study volunteer and individual representation work, and the OU's 'Take Five to Age Well' initiative.
Most importantly of all, there are also several emotional submissions from our SiSE students, which we love to receive.
The bespoke articles written for the printed edition of this newsletter are also available online on The Hoot:
- What the OU has done for me
- Student Union snapshots
- Changes to the Library Study Volunteer request form (and how to make the most of it)
- Hard living / living hard
- Individual Representation Service for students in secure environments
- Take Five to Age Well
- Collective Collaborations and Open Doors
- Celebrating Pride beyond June
- A personal story – a trans journey
We hope you enjoy this new issue. We would love to receive submissions from any SiSE student who wishes to send in feedback, articles and commentary via their education contact.
