On Wednesday 24 January, as part of Freshers Fortnight 2024, the OU Students Association held our second sustainability panel discussion on OU research.

We heard from:

  • Dr Kevin Collins (Senior Lecturer in Environment & Systems) who spoke about Systems & Sustainability: Developing skills in systems thinking and practice

  • Ramla Khan (PhD student in the School of Environment, Earth and Ecosystem Sciences (EEES)) who told us about research on the effect of temperature on urban trees

  • Dr Marcus Badger (Senior Lecturer in Earth Sciences) who discussed how we can use the rock record to understand the Earth’s climate system

  • Dr Leslie Mabon (Lecturer in Environmental Systems in the School of Engineering and Innovation) who spoke on ‘There’s no such thing as a natural disaster: climate change adaptation and resilience’

Each panellist presented their research for 10 minutes, followed by answering questions from students on how they got into the field, current research projects and more.

If you missed the event, you can catch up with the recording on our YouTube channel

We hope to hold more sustainability events in the future, if you have any ideas for us to consider please email us at oustudents-community@open.ac.uk
