Applications are now open for Graduation Stall Volunteer roles across the UK!
We all know volunteering comes with added benefits you never expected, like meeting new friends, learning new skills and going places you’d never usually see. However, two of our Graduation volunteers – Anca Seaton (member of our Board of Trustees) and Rebecca Coster (from our Strategy and Insight staff team) never guessed that selling merchandise at a graduation ceremony would lead them to meet the one and only Ruth Jones!
So what was “occurring”? A household name from countless writing and acting projects, including the heartwarming Gavin and Stacey, Ruth was receiving an honorary degree at the Open University’s Newport graduation ceremony in October 2022 for her lasting contribution to the arts.
Dressed to the nines in her beautiful OU gown, Ruth took the time to meet Anca and Rebecca, and they even had a slightly starstruck photo together – although I hear that Anca and Rebecca succeeded in playing it cool and somehow controlling their excitement when meeting such TV royalty!
Anca and Rebecca also spent the day contributing to the volunteer team, who managed to bring home £2,500 in sales that day. Now that’s a lot of merch and souvenirs!
Congratulations to everyone who graduated in 2022, especially those taking the stage in Newport that day. This included our very own Deputy President, Gareth Jones, who graduated with First-Class Honours in Bachelor of Laws.
Great work, everyone – or as Nessa would say, “Tidy”!
