Every six months, we publish a newsletter specifically for OU students living in a secure environment. These students mainly use paper course material for their studies, meaning that they aren’t able to access the articles published on The Hoot. Therefore, we put together a bespoke newsletter, made up of relevant and interesting Hoot articles from thehootstudents.com, as well as articles written by staff at Open SU.
The January 2025 newsletter (Issue 6) was sent out to institutions across the country – you can download it from the Open SU website. It started with the first ever female SiSE graduation in Dublin, and also included an inspiring letter submitted by one of our readers, which was so lovely to receive.
There were a range of topics covered, including the work that OUSET and our Library Study Volunteers carry out, and the priority areas which our Student Leadership Team is working on.
The bespoke articles written for the printed edition of this newsletter are also available online on The Hoot:
- Reflections on a unique SiSE graduation
- From dreams to reality: becoming a nurse and educator
- A student in a secure environment expresses their gratitude to the OU
- The Open University Students Educational Trust
- Discover our Student Leadership Team priorities
- Library Study Volunteers
We hope you enjoy this new issue and, as always, we encourage our SiSE students to send in any feedback, articles and commentary via their education contact.
Please note that the newsletter was produced before the rebrand from OU Students Association to Open SU.
By the way, did you know that all printed materials sent to Students in Secure Environments (SiSE), including Hoot newsletters, must be in black and white. Discover why this is the case.
